Akron, Colorado is ideally situated on the northeastern plains of Colorado. Located in Washington County, (of which it is the County Seat) Akron is located in the center of one of the major grain and livestock producing areas of the State. Washington County was created in 1887 from part of Weld County. In 1889 the east half was split off to form Yuma County. The south half of today's Washington County was added in 1903 from Arapahoe County.
